Manel González-Piñero holds a PhD in Economics and an MBA from the University of Barcelona (UB), as well as degrees in Business Administration and Management and English Philology (UB). He is Head of Innovation at the Health Research and Innovation Institute (IRIS) of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and co-founder and strategy director of XartecSALUT, the main innovation network in health technologies in Catalonia. He also teaches Economics and Innovation at the Faculty of Economics and Business at UB and at ESMUC (Higher School of Music of Catalonia).
He is academic co-director of the Summer School in Management of Creativity (HEC Montréal & UB) and collaborates with social impact incubation and acceleration programs such as Ship2B, SINAPSIS (for performing arts in the Canary Islands), and Mobile World Capital. He also advises governments (Balearic Islands and Madrid), curates thought and dialogue cycles for international organizations such as "la Caixa" Foundation, and participates in projects related to creative industries.
He has worked in business development at the Biotechnology Research Centre of Canada's National Research Council (Montreal) and at the University of Technology Sydney (Australia), and has conducted research stays at Inland Norway University (Lillehammer) and at Kunsskapsverket – National Knowledge Center for Cultural Industries (Norway).
An expert in creativity, cross-innovation, and strategy, he has published multiple scientific articles and is the author of three books, including La Innovación en la Gestión de la Cultura (Edicions UB).
