Ernesto Ottone

Ernesto Ottone Ramírez has been Assistant Director-General for Culture at UNESCO since 2018. Born on December 11, 1972, he is a Chilean cultural manager and actor with a distinguished international career.
Before his position at UNESCO, he served as Chile's first Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage between 2015 and 2018, where he created a Department of First Peoples, a Migrants Unit, and strengthened copyright laws and heritage protection. He also chaired the Regional Center for Book Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (2016-2017).
His experience includes serving as General Director of the Center for Artistic and Cultural Extension at the University of Chile (2011-2015), which administers the National Symphony Orchestra, the National Ballet of Chile, the Symphonic Choir and the Vocal Camerata. Between 2001 and 2010, he was Executive Director of the Matucana 100 Cultural Center in Santiago.
