Writer, diplomat, and cultural manager. He was the executive coordinator of UNESCO's World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development, Mondiacult 2022, General Director of International Affairs at the Ministry of Culture, and General Director of Promotion and Festivals.
He is the author of the essay La fábrica del lenguaje S.A. (Anagrama 2011); the novels Clipperton (Random House 2015) and Armadura para un hombre solo (Almadía 2012); and the short story collections Las jaulas (Random House 2010) and Agenda del suicidio (Tumbona 2005, 2011), which won the Gilberto Owen National Literature Prize in Mexico.
As a cultural manager, he directed the Cultural Center El Octavo día (1999), and as a diplomat, he has served as cultural attaché in Portugal and director of the Cultural Institute of Mexico in Spain, where he was in charge of creating Casa de México en España (2018). He has published in newspapers such as El País, El Universal, and Milenio, and in magazines such as Granta en español, Gatopardo, and Quimera.
