Santiago Sierra

History graduate (with Extraordinary Prize) from the Complutense University of Madrid. Law graduate from the Complutense University of Madrid. He joined the Spanish Diplomatic Career in 2010. Currently, he is Deputy Director of Cultural and Scientific Relations and Cultural Promotion at AECID.

Diplomat with experience in political, consular, administrative, cultural, scientific, and institutional communication affairs. He has performed his duties at the Consulate General of Spain in Lima, the Embassy of Spain in the Republic of Guinea, and the Embassy of Spain in Warsaw. At the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, he has worked in the General Directorate of Consular and Migration Affairs, the Diplomatic Information Office, and the Directorate of Cultural and Scientific Relations at AECID.

The Sub-directorate he currently heads is responsible for the external promotion of Spanish culture and the internationalization of the Spanish science, technology, and innovation sector through the network of Spanish Embassies. It also coordinates bilateral legal affairs in cultural and scientific matters, handles relations with UNESCO, and administers the Spain-UNESCO Trust Fund, intended to finance development projects through culture and science in Ibero-America, Asia, and Africa.
